Some Sense in this World

It is good to see that maybe some common sense will prevail in this world.  Bush's request for new legislation to deal with prisoners of war has been met with some resistance, even by a handful of Republican senators.  This is huge.  Since historical comparisons are the flavor of the day, I am reminded of FDR's attempt to stuff the supreme court with judges.  The elected representatives of that era kept the president in check and hopefully that will happen in this situation as well.

Your perspective is dead on. It's not remarkable that the Bush gang attacks its critics. It's that they are so inept at it. Comparing those who question the point of the war in Iraq to appeasers of Hitler is so far out that it gives insight into their desperation. On the other hand, the Bushites really are seeking to appeal to the unwashed masses not the thinkers, so maybe such rhetoric is aimed at this outcome.

The problem for the dems is that while it's easy to criticize why we're there, it's really hard to propose the way out. Iraq will probably end like Vietnam: we just say we won and go home. Peace with honor: perfect!
